The Cart Rollers Dream
So, for many years, lots of Nigerians have been so hooked on foreign imported products. These include fashion, electronics, groceries, and even toothpicks. In the past, Nigerian sometimes, deny who they really are because they are ashamed to be identified with the Nigerian narrative. I have come across people who have sworn that they would never be caught dead with a Nigerian-made product. Foreign or Imported was the watchword for them.
But all that has begun to change in the last few years. We’ve seen a big drift from the usual craze for foreign products to appreciation of locally made products. Recently, the current drive by the Federal Government and Industry Watchers for diversification of our economy and proliferation of made-in-Nigeria products has boosted acceptance of made-in-Nigeria items more than ever before. But we are not there yet! We still have people who make Nigerian fashion products and still label them made in Italy, China and whatever other country they so choose.
A while ago, my husband traveled to Dubai and bought a pair of shoes for me. The shoe was sold as a designer shoe of foreign origin. But on returning to Nigeria, we decided to do a background check on the shoes’s origin. Behold, it was a Nigerian designer. And I could almost swear that shoe was made in Aba. That pair of footwear has been in use for longer than I have used many other footwear bought here in Nigeria, with a foreign label.
The Cart Rollers Dream is birthed from this reality: Nigerian fashion designers and manufacturers have what it takes to make world-class products if given the necessary support and enabling environment. It is not news that some of our fashion designers have attained world-recognition. One name that always comes to mind is Frank Oshodi, the designer of the evening gown Agbani Darego wore on the night she was crowned as Miss World in 2001. And that’s just one out of the many fashion designers Nigeria boasts of.
Cart Rollers prides herself in the promotion of strictly made-in-Nigeria fashion items. We have a growing list of Vendors of clothes, shoes, beads, earrings and more. We cater to the needs of men, women, and children. If you’ve you’ve been searching for a hub for Nigerian fashion, we are the go-to place for all that. We’ve equally developed an Online Tailoring platform for everyone seeking to have world-class designs from our fashion designers made specially for them. All you have to do is choose a design you love, input your measurement details at check-out and make payment online via our secure payment platform. In a matter of days, you will have your order delivered to you. For the fashion designer, the hassle of travelling across state or country to meet a client is taken care of, if they could just place their order via this platform, while you make what they have asked for and deliver in the required time frame.
It is our desire to give Nigerian fashion designers and makers of fashion accessories the necessary exposure and boost needed for their businesses to thrive. You just concern yourself with creativity and design, while we bother ourselves with who sees your products, who orders and how your products get to them. That way, we’re taking a lot of stress off you.
